With the release of SilverStripe 5.3.0, we’ve updated our CMS plugin at WebShed to bring you the latest features, performance improvements, and fresh functionality, with full testing in place. We’ve also taken advantage of new file rendering features to make your website faster than ever. Check out some of the key new features below.
- Bug fixes and patching
- Image Gallery Element upgraded to support WebP images, improving website speeds
- Media Element now generates YouTube/Vimeo thumbnails directly from the video link
- Documents Element allows you to relate documents to multiple pages when adding a document, saving staff time
- Promo Element adds embargo and expiry dates, allowing you to show/hide items as needed, you can also hide a specific promo on certain pages
- News Element now lets you change the order of articles (ascending or descending), ideal for event listings
- Banner Element improvements: adds a play button for video links and supports different banner images for different devices
- Show page in menu includes a "Show in Menu" toggle for added flexibility
- Increased Elements Display: You can now display up to 150 elements instead of 25. Saving time by not having to move 25 records at a time.
- Meta Title Override: New field to override the default meta title for pages
- Version History Enhancements: The backend now only displays the latest 50 versions for faster load times. All history still exists if you need to go back further. We have also added a new compare feature so you can see the actual differences of any saved version of an element to make the restore process even easier.
- Website Search Improvements: Major updates to hit counting, ordering, and a new custom search field to improve search visibility
- WebP Image Rendering: All images uploaded via the CMS or WYSIWYG editor now render as WebP images for improved performance
We hope you’ll enjoy the new features on your website - we are aiming to begin to roll out by the end of November 2024. And feel free to get in touch if you'd like to chat about how these can improve your website.
